HP's Elite Dragonfly is a 360-arcdegree convertible laptop that manages the neat trick of fitting the most important enterprise features into a sliver of a package. And information technology's got a cool name to boot.

Slated to land on October 25 with a starting price of $1,549, the Elite Sewing needle sports a chassis that's just 0.6 inches see-through. As we go game through the features, you'll see a freehanded align of choices in both areas, and in others, some requirement compromises expected to the slender chassis. And if you like the sound of its 2.2-pound base weight or 24-60 minutes battery life, just remember that only certain configurations will achieve those eyeglasses—we'll explain more than below.

Update: An earlier version of this account notable that store for the Elite Dragonfly was restricted to 16GB. HP has since processed that 8GB configurations testament also be available.

HP Elite Darning needle specs: Many, many choices

The Elite group Devil's darning needle has a spec list as long and shiny as its namesake. Lashkar-e-Toiba's summarize the primary items before delving deeper into certain features:

The SSD storage options are a commixture of SATA and PCIe SSDs ranging from 128GB to 2TB, some with Intel Optane Memory, one with FIPS encryption. The interface and capacity variations are too much to detail Here, only suffice it to say you have mint of choices.

For Ram down, you can select 'tween 8GB or 16GB of dual-convey LPDDR3-2133 SDRAM. Acknowledged, that is more than enough for most enterprise work, but note that it's soldered to the motherboard, so nary upgrading is conceivable.

The 13.3-inch display's three panel options each have their own temptation. The standard Glutted HD (1920×1080) touch screen is a 1-watt panel that treads lightly on battery life. The For sure View FHD hindquarters be toggled from a normal view to a secure one that thwarts sidelong peekers. It also has a stunning 1,000-nit maximum brightness, but if you crank information technology up your battery will shout out. Finally on that point's a 4K option, which sounds insanely crisp and lovely, but information technology's also much of pixels for such a modest panel. You'll need to weighing machine upbound your icons or they'll make up microscopic, and of course, 4K displays use more assault and battery life.

The HP Selected Dragonfly offers three display options: a Full-HD 1-watt panel that'll help extend your assault and battery life, a 1,000-nit FHD display with HP's Sure View privacy toggle, and a 550-nit 4K expose.

Speech production of the stamp battery, the Elite Dragonfly offers two options. The standard 2-prison cell, 38Whr might pack offers a projected life of improving to 16.5 hours, which is already great. There's also a 4-cell, 56Whr Performance shelling, and that's the one projected to last up to a stunning 24 hours—provided your Elite group Dragonfly has the canonic FHD 1-watt panel. HP did non have estimated battery life stats for the some other panel options, but it's safe to put on they will not hit 24 hours. Banker's bill, too, that the Performance battery will addition the Elite Dragonfly's total weight by about 0.3 Ezra Pound.

As far as device interfaces survive, the Elite Dragonfly offers two Thunderbolt 3 ports, immaculate for conjunctive monitors as well every bit high-speed storage devices, along with a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Typecast-A port, a fraught HDMI interface, and a jazz band 3.5-column inch sound jack.

The HP Selected Dragonfly features a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports, an HDMI port, and a combo 3.5mm audio Jack-tar on the aright side, plus a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Typewrite-A port happening the left.

Eastern Samoa with H.P.'s early recent Elitebooks, the Elite Dragonfly comes with Wi-Fi 6 hold up, in the nick of time for the prospective deluge of Wi-Fi 6 routers now that the latest Wi-Fi standard has lastly been registered. There's also optional gigabit LTE with 4×4 antennas, along with Bluetooth 4.2.

Design and hands-on impressions

Also its below-the-hood HP, the Elite Dragonfly arrives with a sleek CNC-machined magnesium crush designed to meet MIL-STD-810G standards.

It also features an oleophobic coating that's designed to refuse dirt and fingerprints—and indeed, the Elite Dragonfly that I checkered out at HP's launch event had scantily any greasy fingerprints on information technology, even later it had been thoroughly handled by much than a dozen attendees.

The HP Elite Dragonfly's racing shell boasts an oleophobic coating that's designed to resist unimproved and fingerprints, and yes, it appears to work.

The key caps on the Elite Snake doctor's keyboard boasting about 1.4mm of travel and the same quieter rubber-dome design found in HP's 14-column inch Elitebook 1040 G4 and x360 1040 G5 models. HP Noise Cancelling technology helps to cut downwards on close noise (including the sound of your typewriting) by awake to 20 decibel. I gave the keyboard a nimble essa and the keys so felt sufficient, although it was hard to tell how quiet they were in the buzzing ballroom where the product unveiling took put off.

The Elite Dragonfly's 13-3-in display comes with 4.75mm position bezels and a 10.25mm top bezel, giving it an 85.8-percent screen-to-body ratio that (again, according to HP) is fantastic for a 13-inch incarnate convertible. Sitting in the top bezel is a Windows Hello-supporting loan-blend IR/webcam with a physical privacy shutter.

A combo webcam/IR camera that supports Windows Hello sits in the HP Elite Dragonfly's top expose bezel, and IT comes with a physical secrecy shutter.

Security and enterprise features

Public speaking of security, the Elite Dragonfly features a fingerprint reader that sits near the fundament right corner of the keyboard, while HP's Sure Feel technology is designed to intelligently detect so-called "aught-hour" malware threats that have yet to follow known.

The HP Elite Dragonfly's key caps attach to the equivalent rubber-dome design as on HP's 14-inch Elitebooks. Likewise on board: hardended fingerprint authentication.

You also get so much HP security features as Dependable Click, which sandboxes webpages and read-only Office and PDF attachments; Convinced Start, which helps the BIOS recover from attacks; and Sure Run, which is designed to prevent whatsoever tampering with your security measures settings. Remote IT management and alimony via Intel's vPro technology is an elective extra if you spring for a Dragonfly pose with a Core i7-8665U central processor.

Last not least, the Elite Dragonfly will also be the first HP laptop to ship with the companionship's new Workwell software, which reminds you to take breaks and recommends various physical activities at any time interval you choose.
